Wait, Wait, Don’t Assume I’m a Progressive

Do you listen to NPRs “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me” as you go about doing chores on Sunday? I do. Do Host Peter Sagal and producer Doug Berman know that we conservatives will tune in to avoid the typical weekend radio on real estate and dietary supplements? Today’s flippancy toward all things conservative was pronounced.

C.S. Lewis’ tempter Screwtape describes flippancy in The Screwtape Letters this way:
But flippancy is the best of all. In the first place it is very economical. Only a clever human can make a real Joke …

Obama Versus Netanyahu On How To Start A Speech

If you haven’t watched Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations in September, 2009 and you like the plain speaking of Sarah Palin and Ronald Reagan, you should watch. He gets right to the speech part of the speech in 10 seconds.
By way of  comparison it took Barack Obama a minute and 34 seconds to start the speech proper. First was a lengthy salutation followed by an “I come before you humbled” line that, coming so soon after the preening he did during the first applause line, left me …

Jack Webb Schools Obama on Respect for Police

With all the diplomatic skill of that tall guy in Accounting at the water cooler the president of the United States wonders aloud how much or how little racial animosity motivated Sergeant James Crowley to arrest professor Henry Gates. It’s a shame Jack Webb wasn’t there to comment.

Some guy The president Monday morning quarterbacking the police.
Well Mr. President, I think it’s fair to say number 1, you weren’t there, number 2, you weren’t there, and number 3, you weren’t there.

Jack Webb Schools Timothy Geithner on Tax Mistakes

The confirmation hearing of Timothy Geithner for Treasury Secretary did not end with a scolding. Many wish it had.

Ever wonder where the term “shifty eyed” comes from? See it at 0:30.

Dinosaur Media Says “We Don’t License To YouTube”

When the Jack Webb video went past 200,000 views I got an invitation from YouTube management to start selling ads through the YouTube Partnership Program. The registration form warns you not to sell ads for copyrighted material. So I call Roni Lubliner in the Media Licensing group at Universal Studios, explain the Jack Webb Schools Barack Obama on Healthcare YouTube, and ask if it would be possible to license the 90 seconds of Dragnet in the video. She scolds me that the original writers and artists deserve to be paid. …

The Unintended Consequences Of Getting It Right

When my wife and I used to be musicians we and the other players were arrogant 20 somethings who nailed almost every song we did and always had the dance floor packed. And as a result we felt free to do all kinds of goofy stuff–a 50s show, a Country Western show, costumes (see pic), funny hats, glasses, stage gymnastics etc. It was fun for us and fun for our Sheraton/Country Club circuit audiences.

Then the band changed personnel for about 2 months and the new guys weren’t very good. We …

Camping Trip Story

With little planning on a drizzly Friday afternoon we take off for [redacted for fear of progressive interest]. It’s raining when we arrive. I’ve left the tent stakes at home. It is cold, we are hungry, the tent has poles and no stakes, the poles have plastic connectors that are broken. Although I’ve made every mistake you can make I did remember to bring duct tape for the broken plastic connectors. The rain and 99 cent store quality of the duct tape make even that pathetic gesture meaningless. Using bungie …

Isn’t he a Teacher?

In the video below former Clinton cabinet member and Berkeley professor Robert Reich does not state and rebut any of the arguments against the public option. At 1:38 he says “They want to scare you, and they have plenty of money and plenty of political partisans to do their dirty work.” At 1:51 it is revealed that this is simply a call to arms with no intention to educate or add to the discussion.

Noted educator Robert Reich uses the phrase “do their dirty work.”

The Barack-Jack Resemblance

A reader at Breitbart’s Big Hollywood notes:
“Does anyone else think Barack looks a little like Jack Webb?”
